Sophisticated software is available for the quantitative analysis of imaging data. JHMRI investigators have free and open access to the following instrumentation: FujiFilm FLA2000 Fluorescent laser scanning imager. Capable of a range of applications include SYBR Green or Ethidium Bromide staining of DNA gels, SYPRO Orange staining of protein gels, DNA protein blots and thin layer chromatography. The FLA-3000 is also equipped to handle applications such as gene expression macroarrays and autoradiography.
Nikon Eclipse E800 upright microscope. Equipped for differential interference contrast (DIC), phase contrast, multicolor UV epifluorescence, deconvolution digital imaging, optical sectioning and color histological imaging, this microscope is commonly used to observe malarial parasites replicating in liver cells or erythrocytes. Images are saved on a dedicated storage PC server accessible from most computers in the department.
Nikon TE200 inverted microscope. Equipped for Hoffman modulation contrast (HMC), phase contrast, multicolor UV epifluorescence, and digital snapshot and video imaging under environmentally controlled conditions, this microscope is designed to view and document live cells and tissues.
